Paul Suff, editor of the environmentalist, said: “Our reviewers found that all five solutions would help companies produce more robust GHG data and reports, but Ecometrica Sustainability scored highest. The panel particularly liked the quality control built into Ecometrica Sustainability, which is essential for data management and reporting.”
Dr Richard Tipper, chairman of Ecometrica, continued: “This is excellent news and validates our focus on creating flexible solutions that can easily integrate with existing IT systems. The result is a robust and scalable platform that accurately reports GHGs, streamlines the audit process and covers a wide range of additional CSR, health, safety and environmental metrics.
The reporting of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) became mandatory for all UK companies listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange from 30 September. Elevating GHG reporting to the same level as financial information, companies are now required to set out the methodologies used to calculate the emissions information and the ratio that confirms the relationship between an organisation’s emissions and activities. However, this is widely recognised as a complex, time-consuming and error-prone process.
“We are continuing to invest in further developments that will bring the power of geospatial data analysis within easy reach of business decision makers, so that data, such as water consumption, can be viewed within the context of local water scarcity,” added Dr Tipper.
Mandatory GHG reporting requirements for listed companies are expected to expand to other large businesses from 2016, putting a greater onus on the delivery of credible, verified results.
The head-to-head review, published in the October 2013 issue of the environmentalist, saw each company demonstrating the capabilities of their software, using data and a client scenario developed for specifically the review. Ecometrica Sustainability was commended for its “impressive balance between functionality and simplicity” and its “focus on quality assurance”. It was described as “ideal for companies with multiple sites who require robust, comprehensive, fully auditable reports”.
